Walls stretch for five kilometers.
Its construction began in the mid-17th century and was completed in the mid-18th century.
The fort, sheltered by an intricate set of bastions, ravelins, and moats, was divided into two large areas connected by the so-called Middle Gate: the northern sector, which encompasses the old medieval village, and the southern sector, a smaller, more open area: the Coroada.
